There are some very caring people in this world and some careless. If we do not preserve the environment the future is in danger. We need to protect our future! Did you know that there was Texas-sized waste found in the ocean? Normally, plastic items take up to 1000 years to decompose in landfills. But plastic bags we use in our everyday life take 10-20 years to decompose, while plastic bottles take 450 years. Using the 3 R’s we can help reduce carbon footprint. It is nearly impossible to decompose plastic because most bacteria cannot break them down. UV light from the sun can break plastic down, but it takes a long time. We produce 300 million tons of plastic, the weight equivalent of 50 million African elephants, each year!
Reduce: Reducing waste is the most important thing we can do. By reducing waste, we avoid the unnecessary use of resources such as materials, energy, and water. It means there is less waste to manage.
Reuse: The next most important thing we can do is reuse waste material. That way it doesn't go in the rubbish and end up in the landfill. It also means you don't have to buy a new product. That saves you money and saves the energy and resources that would have been used to make the new product.
Recycle: Recycling is the process of converting waste materials into new materials and objects. The right thing to do is put the right recyclables in the recycling container and non-recyclables into garbage containers. Recyclables with the greatest impact are bottles, cans, paper, and cardboard.

Say no to bottled water.
Use reusable rags and cloths for cleaning.
Buy foods with little or no packaging.
Rethink food storage.
Use reusable cutlery.
