The Amazon rainforest covers much of northwestern Brazil and extends into Colombia, Peru, and other South American countries. Amazon is also known as the lungs of Earth. Stretching over a huge portion of the South American continent, the world’s largest and most bio-diverse rainforest. As mysterious as it is breathtaking, the Amazon remains one of the most written about and studied ecosystems on earth. The rainforest likely formed during the Eocene era (from 56 million years to 33.9 million years ago). There are lots of unique and wonderful creatures of the amazon like the Jaguar, Giant River Otter, Red Howler Monkey, Capybara, Black-capped Squirrel Monkey, Sloth, Collared Anteater, Pink River Dolphin and so many more!
Even though the Amazon is huge and very diverse, it's not perfect because, huge areas of rainforest are destroyed by clearing for farming, timber, roads, hydropower dams, mining, house-building, or other development. The problem is it's often seen as more economically worthwhile to cut the forest down than to keep it standing. This is even causing problems for the unique animals who live in the Amazon and can lose their habitat. But recent trends reveal that the changing climate will likely come for this beloved rainforest long before the last tree is cut down. One researcher has even put a date on his prediction for the Amazon's impending death: 2064. That's the year the Amazon rainforest will be completely wiped out. We need to preserve our rainforests and protect them because if we don't then many animals will be extinct and we also might lose our lives without trees in this world.
